Those of us in the Swing Band stayed an extra hour to jazz up the audience. An overall good performance by all; you can walk away with your head held high. Look forward to competing Text Box: against next year… in B Division!
Text Box: The Concert Band Festival was a new, exciting experience for all of us; actually competing was something new for most of our members, and we met it head-on, attacking the challenge with burning enthusiasm. 
The results, 171/200 all up, are definitely something to be proud of, considering it was our first time in the real game. You can Text Box: Vice President Harry Jenkin has been awarded an OAM in the General Division of the Queen's Birthday Honours list for services to music in the Perth region through a range of community bands. Everyone give Harry a big hand!
Harry was born in Kalgoorlie on the 20th December, 1933, and has been involved with music ever since. He studied piano for two years as a youngster and had his first taste of brass bands with the Salvation Army Junior Band under bandmaster Eric Banfield. He would later join the Boulder Mines Band under Jack Wallis, on cornet and tenor horn.
Harry later joined  over twenty military bands, gradually rising through the ranks to Captain, Officer Commanding/Music Director. Following his discharge in 1980, Harry took up positions as Bandmaster of Wanneroo City Concert Band, Channel 7 Youth Band, Northern Districts Brass Band and Vincent Brass and became a playing Text Box: member of Jam ‘N’ Jazz. Harry came and joined us here in the City of Perth bands in April 1997.
It’s safe to say Harry has had a very prolific musical career and deserved every inch of this award. Well done, Harry!

It’s not all fun and games, though; decisions will be made about the band council and how it operates Text Box: The Annual General Meeting for both bands is on the 12th of August this year, starting at 7 PM.

Last year’s AGM was a great evening for both bands, and this year promises the same standard of musical excellence.
